1st Year - Seattle Avon 3-day Breast Cancer Crusade
Hello and Welcome
Did you know that this year, approximately 203,500 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer? That's 557 per day. This disease, breast cancer touches nearly all of us, whether we're women or men, old or young. Men can get breast cancer too, every year, about 1,500 men will be diagnosed with the disease. A woman's chance of having breast cancer during her lifetime is one in eight. 1 in 8 and your chance of knowing this woman is almost 100%. Although these facts are staggering, the death rate from the disease is declining -- people are surviving. In fact, there are 2 million breast cancer survivors in America today. But in order to survive, they need access to medical care, to screening, education and treatment. And ultimately we need a cure. Will you help? I am working to help raise awareness by walking in the Seattle Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Crusade (60 miles) This is a huge effort but right for me because I have been very sedimentary for the past 7 years. Will you support my efforts by making a tax-deductible donation? The donation form allow for various type of donations including spreading out payments for up to 12 months. The choice is up to each one of us, and if you will match my $250.00 (5x$50.00 or 25.00x10) we can help women who don't have choices. The goals of 60 miles in 3 days and winning the war against breast cancer appear HUGE, especially considering that on January 8th, I could not walk 1 mile, and that over 203,500 women per year are diagnosed with breast cancer. However, I have FAITH that I can walk the 60 miles and even more FAITH that together we can find a cure. Officially as of January 4, I am registered Walker #2270 and will walk 60 miles in the Avon 3-day Breast Cancer Crusade on August 9, 10, 11, 2002. From Enumclaw (near Mt. Rainier) to Seattle, Washington. Join me: ** By encouraging me, ** By joining me in becoming a walker, ** By volunteering, as a crewmember, or fundraiser, and/or ** By being one of my sponsors. In Honor of my Grandmother Carolyn, Friend Dianne, Cousin Frana, and all those affected by Cancer. Leslie McCain Walker #2270 |
